It's the season!

It's the season!

No, not Christmas (yet).

Also not the season to go back to Africa to work. I’ve started work in Rotterdam this month and for the first time in at least 8 years there is no upcoming African adventure planned… And yes, I miss it. I still miss it, I have to say, because it’s been almost 3 years since I enjoyed a longer period of leisure time in Africa! With Covid-19 still ruling the world, however, it’s recommended that we time travel: back to memories and forward to future plans. So I envision my yoga mat sits on the banks of the Zambezi and when I walk in the woods I look out for elephants. Both in mind and in reading and planning I’ve found myself in those dazzling places. On any map, my fingers trace the outline of Africa.

Exploring the completely flooded Dikere river, looking out to Riguiek Pan in Zakouma National Park, Tchad.

Luckily for me and anyone else waiting patiently for travel to come back, it’s the season of Wildlife Film Festivals! With Wildlife Film Festival Rotterdam opening tonight you can find all films here. Whether is Africa or the Arctics rocking your boat - make sure you don’t miss it! In line with the Dutch Covid-19 guidelines, 30 pax are allowed in Cinerama cinema but almost all films can be viewed online too! And not just at screening times but throughout the entire 6 days of the festival! There are no big events this year and talks with film makers are pre-recorded.

I’m definitely going for Our Gorongosa, the opening film On thin ice and enjoy the shorter works in the WILD EARTH selection - often beautiful tributes to nature by passionate people.

It’s a different kind of festival but let’s deal with it!

Enjoy!
